HCHS Clubs/Extracurricular Activities
Hertford County High School Battle of the Books Club:
The Hertford County High School Battle of the Books is an engaging reading competition in which students form a team to represent the High School. Students read a selection of designated books. These books are chosen by the North Carolina School Library Media Association (NCSLMA) and through student choice surveys released in the Spring of each year.
Teams compete by answering trivia questions related to the annual list of books provided by NCSLMA.
Key Events:
- District Battle: Takes place in Hertford County around February/March.
- Regional and State Battles: Scheduled for April/May.
Important Information:
This program is designed to promote reading, improve comprehension skills, and encourage teamwork among students.
- Students interested in joining the team should request an opportunity from the High School Librarian.
- Teachers may also nominate students for team membership.
All team members must maintain their grades and are responsible for reading 15 books. They must also participate in school practices to prepare for district, regional, and state competitions.
Hertford County High School Beta Club:
The Hertford County High School Beta Club is an educational organization affiliated with the National Beta Club, serving students at the high school level.
Membership Requirements:
- Students must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Achieve an average of 90 or above, with no grade lower than 80 on the previous year's report card or first semester grades.
Core Values:
The Beta Club emphasizes the importance of academic achievement, character development, community service, and leadership skills.
Hertford County High School Student Council (SGA)
The Student Government Association (SGA) at Hertford County High School is an important student-led organization that represents the voices of the student body. It collaborates closely with school administration to express student opinions, plan events, and advocate for student interests. The SGA provides high school students with a valuable opportunity to actively engage in shaping their school environment, fostering a sense of community and leadership among peers.
